Hi! I’m Alex, a third-year chemistry student at Durham University and current co-President of EA Durham, with specific interests in the climate crisis and animal suffering. As someone with a long-standing interest in national politics, I am interested in getting more effective altruists into and advising law-making bodies. Whether it be action on the climate crisis, international aid commitments, or funding for existential threat research, politicians should be fully informed of the science and evidence surrounding an issue, even if it disagrees with their ideology. I’m also very keen to stress the importance of the Giving What We Can pledge to convince more people to do good, even if they don’t have the greatest interest in the movement.
