In my endeavour to maximize my positive impact on the world, I take a consequentialist approach and focus on the biggest picture I can. This generally means that I am primarily concerned with the social, memetic effects of actions, and also with efforts that can indirectly enable sustainable social change. My priority cause is the spreading of non-speciesism, given the massive amount of suffering involved in animal agriculture, the significantly low cost of reducing that suffering relative to other causes, and the critical importance of addressing the issue in order to be able to address wild animal and other nonhuman suffering (or before assuming that the far future will be positive and directing our resources there).
I came to EA from the "altrusim" side, when I was an activist organizer in the animal rights movement.
Personal notes: After I came to intellectually recognize the personhood of nonhuman animals, in the interest of developing my intuitive recognition of that personhood, I participated in the rescue and rehabilitation of hens from battery cage and "free range" operations. I have also adopted two of those little dinosaur angels into my family. (Their names are Snow and Dualla.)
Donations
I additionally intend to spend much of my free time socially promoting altruism, and volunteering for animal sanctuaries (which is more about maintaining my motivation than the direct impact of a single volunteer at a sanctuary).

Your views and values
I am currently earning to give as a software developer. Before that I was a full-time volunteer Organizer and Graphic Designer with an animal liberation activism group for two years. Socially I talk about EA and nonspeciesism, and outside of work I volunteer at local animal sanctuaries.
You and EA
Sustainably handling my emotional response when I feel overwhelmed at the thought of the extent of suffering in the world. My EA friends help me focus on the impact that I *can* have.
A perspective from someone who was driven to EA from more outwardly emotional motivations than many current EAs, and who has experience working closely with social justice activists.
Your career
Software Developer (Portfolio)
I studied at App Academy and am happy to share my experience. I was also an Organizer and Graphic Designer with a grassroots nonprofit activist group, and am happy to talk about that experience as well!
