I'm Juan B. García Martínez, chemical engineer and research associate for the Alliance to Feed the Earth in Disasters (ALLFED). I study the potential of different alternative foods for global catastrophic risks that preclude conventional agriculture, such as sun-blocking catastrophes (Large asteroid, supervolcano, nuclear winter). My most important research so far is on using fermentation for protein production (single cell proteins). My interests are longtermism, existential risk and global catastrophic risk reduction, food security and alternative proteins as a potential solution to climate change and animal suffering from factory farming (http://newprotein.org/maps).
